Real-World Cyber Attack
Journey

Follow the path of a typical cyber attack — from first contact to recovery.

STEP 1

Victim Receives Message

A phishing email or SMS arrives appearing legitimate

STEP 2

Victim Clicks Link

Curiosity or urgency drives the victim to engage

STEP 3

Information Stolen

Credentials, personal data, and financial info captured

STEP 4

Account Compromised

Attacker gains full access and control

STEP 5

Financial Loss

Unauthorized transactions and drained accounts

STEP 6

Recovery Process

Reporting, securing accounts, and rebuilding safety

Section 05

Expert Cyber Security
Insights

Understanding the "why" behind cyber threats makes you harder to deceive.

Psychology

Why Phishing Succeeds

Phishing exploits urgency and trust. Attackers craft messages that trigger panic — "Your account will be locked!" — bypassing rational thinking. The human brain under stress makes faster, less accurate decisions.

Trend

Why Ransomware Is Growing

Ransomware-as-a-Service has lowered the barrier to entry. Attackers no longer need technical skills — they rent malware, target weak infrastructure, and collect payments in cryptocurrency that is nearly untraceable.

Risk

Identity Theft Risks

With over 4 billion records exposed in breaches, your personal data is already out there. Identity thieves combine fragments from multiple breaches to build complete profiles for fraud.

Psychology

Social Engineering Psychology

Social engineers exploit three principles: authority (pretending to be a manager), scarcity (limited-time offer), and social proof ("everyone is doing this"). These bypass our security instincts.

Privacy

Digital Privacy Importance

Every click, search, and purchase creates a digital footprint. Aggregated data reveals patterns about your health, finances, and relationships. Protecting privacy is protecting autonomy.

Legal

Cyber Law Awareness

Most people do not know their digital rights. The IT Act 2000, IT Amendment 2008, and upcoming Digital Personal Data Protection Act provide legal recourse — but only if you know they exist.

Section 06

10 Golden Rules of Online Safety

01

Never Share OTP

Your OTP is the last line of defense. No bank, company, or government agency will ever ask for it. Sharing it means handing over access to your accounts.

02

Verify Links Before Clicking

Hover over links to preview the URL. Look for misspellings, extra characters, or unusual domains. When in doubt, navigate directly to the website instead.

03

Use Strong Passwords

Combine uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols. Use at least 12 characters. Consider a passphrase: a memorable sentence is stronger than a random string.

04

Enable Two-Factor Authentication

2FA adds a second verification step. Even if your password is compromised, attackers cannot access your account without the second factor.

05

Keep Software Updated

Updates patch security vulnerabilities that attackers exploit. Enable automatic updates for your OS, browser, and apps. Outdated software is an open door.

06

Avoid Suspicious Downloads

Download only from official stores and verified sources. Pirated software, cracked apps, and unknown attachments often carry malware hidden inside.

07

Use Secure WiFi

Public WiFi is a goldmine for attackers. Avoid accessing banking or sensitive accounts on shared networks. Use a VPN if you must connect publicly.

08

Monitor Financial Transactions

Check bank and card statements regularly. Set up transaction alerts. Early detection of unauthorized activity can prevent major financial loss.

09

Backup Important Data

Follow the 3-2-1 rule: 3 copies, 2 different media, 1 offsite. Ransomware becomes powerless when you have clean backups of your critical files.

10

Report Suspicious Activities

Reporting helps authorities track patterns and protect others. Call 1930 for cyber crime complaints in India, or visit the National Cyber Crime Portal.
